Nissan 350Z | Z.com
When it comes to Automotive Buzz, the 350Z stands out as one of the most talked about cars on the market. Nissan has built upon the Z culture and brand with an incredible machine that everyone should have in their garage.
Automotive Buzz has selected the Z.com website for review for two reasons. First, it's the official website for 350Z enthusiasts and also because we really like the domain name.

Initial Impression
At the beginning of our visit to the website, we choose the full-blown flash version of the website. Load time was slow, but the initial presentation that arrived was worth the wait. This site appeared to be more like a television commercial than a website with slick graphics and sound.
One thing is certain, the 350Z has brand appeal that's been supercharged to the hilt. We enjoyed the initial impact the site had and continued to press forward to see what else the website had to offer.

Search Engine Access
Finding the Z.com site was far from easy. We performed a search for "350Z" within Google with no results present on the first page of results. We found this site by following links from NissanDriven.com that targeted Z.com as the official site for 350Z drivers.
Our evaluation, many other 350Z sites seem to be attracting the attention of Search Engines and Internet users. In short, the Z.com site failed our evaluation for Search Engine Performance for the most important terms in regards to the content and audience that their site seeks to attract.

User Experience
The navigation system with the website showed promise. High-level descriptions of the pages within (ie. Passion, Love, Temptation, etc.) drove us look into each section to see what it had to offer.
During the navigational experience, one item stood out from the rest, we couldn't return to the Home page of the site due to navigation failure.
We also experienced a random navigation break-down with many different sections of the site not working correctly. While evaluating the commercial galleries, the Cops commercial just didn't load. Very sloppy and if we weren't reviewing the site, it would have been a Good-Bye que.
Overall the experience was negative. Certain elements like the navigation failure soured the trip, but we kept looking into the site for more hidden elements of interest.

Content Evaluation
Historical data about the progression of the Z is present in a designers format of presentation. Pictures of older Zs are also present. The design process of the Z was an interesting section (but we couldn't find our way back to it).
The Message Board which intendend to provide a full discussion forum lacked meat. It's obvious to us, that people are discussing the 350Z somewhere else on the Internet. Could it be the website? We would say yes.
Another note: We walked away feeling like the website promoted the commercials more than the car. There were extensive sections and data about the "Award Winning Commercials", which didn't really get us excited about the website. We loved the commercials on TV, but reading the history of them should be left to Advertising 101 in a college somewhere. In short, it became wasted space or filler that was thrown into the website.

Website Speed
Overall: DOG
Flash sites are pretty and provide great animation, but an entire website built in Flash consistently falls short in terms of speed. Also taking files not even loading within the panes that they should, we would have to tag this site as a DOG.
Only 15% of households have broadband access and this site would be consistent with an elephant moving through a garden hose. They do offer 2 different versions of the site, but Flash is Flash and the demon you build with such a system, is fluff over content (in our opinion of course).

Evaluation Summary
Overal we left the site wanting. The 350Z is a great car, Nissan has created a wonderful brand, I drive a Nissan Maxima and this website needs work. If I wanted to see commercials or the history of how to make commercials about the 350Z then this site is where I would go. If I wanted to discuss customizing, supercharging or tweaking out my Z then this would be the last destination on the Internet Map.
