When you add cars, tools, creativity and the fabricating talent of the Notorious Jesse James you get the Monster Garage. This series on the Discovery Channel is one of the most popular series that Discovery has ever aired.
Every episode takes Jesse James to the edge of his metal mind. A team of top-dog gear-heads dive into a different task of transforming a vehicle into some kind of monster machine with Jesse as the captain of the ship. This show is a must see for anyone interested in cars, customization and twisted reality television.

Initial Impression

The Monster Garage Fan Website on Discovery Channel's main website presented a great first impression. An animated sequence with sound threw open a garage door with Jesse James sitting there looking ready for battle.
We instantly started clicking on items within the Main Feature pane displayed prominently on the home page. Links and topics contained within this interest pane provided great information about future shows and events.
Our initial impression was a little bit soiled by the gross amount of space dedicated to banner ads and the lack of real estate dedicated to the Monster Garage topic.

Search Engine Access

The Discovery Channel has done a great job of positioning their "Fan Site" in the correct places for Internet users to find their website within the major search engines. We performed a search for "Monster Garage" and their website showed up as the #1 option.
On another note, West Coast Choppers (Jesse's Custom Motorcycle Website) showed up in the #2 and #4 position. This is a fine example of blocking out the top positions for very popular keyword searches.

User Experience

Navigating through the website was simple. All available options were present on the left navigation pane with healthy content and topics to choose from.
The interior pages provided easy section specific navigation controls which lead sometimes to pop-up windows for a detailed view of the topic (ie. pictures of Jesse, etc.). The pop-ups could have been integrated into the site, but not very well with the lack of space dedicated to the actual content of the website (again too much advertising space). So, the pop-ups achieved a more detailed view of the content resulting in a better user experience.

Content Evaluation

After spending more than an hour surfing the Monster Garage website, we feel like seasoned Gear-Heads. We love this show and watch it all the time. The website really provided in interesting look into everything Monster Garage related.
You can read about participant metal-heads that joined the team with Jesse to build the monster machines, while also learning about Jesse and how he's become a national icon of self-starters-who-rumble-the-globe (our opinion .. he's an institution in himself).

Website Speed

|
We have an intolerable need for speed (not only on the web, but in our cars as well). This website provided a quick response to every request even with the beafy banner ads.
The composite nature of the website, integrating standard HTML with elements of Flash, really glued the whole thing together in terms of presentation. And it was fast loading which plays kudos to the designers of the Flash elements.

Evaluation Summary

Overall we loved the Monster Garage Website. It was easy to find from within search engines. Our initial impression was very postitive and lead to an extensive review of the entire website.
The website was easy to navigate and occupied more than an hour of our time of enjoyable reading and picture viewing. Our knowledge of everything Monster was raised considerably with extensive content about the show and those who dare to call themselves "Monster Material" and join the renegade band to build these cool machines.
Website speed passed our high expectations because you can't build speed demons and not have a supercharged website!. Everything from images to Flash sections with animation and sound flowed easily into our browsers fast.
We highly recommend this site to anyone interested in the Monster Garage.
